	Long Way Down (Referee 7/91) — The tragic story of legendary NBA referee Richie Powers’ spectacular fall from the top of the NBA heap to a life of homelessness, destitution and suicide attempts, spurred by severe alcoholism, was recounted here in one of our most memorable articles. Powers, homeless and penniless, died of a stroke in a Pennsylvania hospital July 1998.
