Stephen Peterson (Referee 3/95) — The strange case of Stephen Peterson came to our attention shortly after we published the 1994 NFL roster of officials. A high school football official from Shawnee, Okla., called our offices to inform us we had made a mistake and that Stephen Peterson, a member of his high school crew, was omitted from the roster by mistake. We discovered that Peterson was successfully passing himself off as an NFL official to not only his high school crewmates, but to his friends and family as well. Ultimately, Peterson’s deceptions were made public in this story.
