At times a game needs to be stopped because of an injury. When an injury occurs during a live ball as shown in the PlayPic, time will not be called until no further advance or putout is possible. If there is a medical emergency or if, in the umpire’s judgment, further play may cause injury or jeopardize a participant’s safety, play should be stopped immediately (USA Softball 4-10 Effect; NFHS 5-2-1d Note; NCAA 12.12.6.5 Effect; USSSA 5-9a Effect).

Before resumption of play, award a base or bases that offensive players would have reached, in the umpire’s judgment, had play not been suspended. *
