The 18 Best Calls in Officiating History (09/07)

  • 0

September 2007

While 24-hour sports television networks replay perceived missed calls ad nauseum, no one had ever attempted to compile a list of officials’ best work. That, we figured, was up to us.

After weeks of wrangling, politicking and researching, we winnowed a long list (yes, there were way more than 18 to choose from) down to the best of the best.

Calls (or no-calls) in five sports — baseball, basketball, football, soccer and softball — made the cut, with pro, college and high school officials highlighted. The events spanned from 1908-2005.

When so many others in the world are dying to point out officiating mistakes, we celebrated the courageous, talented and alert officials who got ’em right.
