Ron Torbert, a veteran NFL referee and a long-time member of the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO), has had a distinguished officiating career that has led him to the pinnacle of the profession—officiating the Super Bowl. He credits his NASO membership, the connections he made through the association, and the insights he gained from Referee Magazine as instrumental in his career progression.

Torbert began officiating in 1989 at the high school level in Michigan before advancing through college ranks, including the Mid-American Conference and the Big Ten, and even officiating in NFL Europe. He joined the NFL in 2010 as a side judge and was promoted to referee in 2014. Since then, he has officiated numerous high-profile postseason games, including multiple Divisional Playoffs and Super Bowl LVI in 2022. He has now been selected as the referee for Super Bowl LIX in 2025.

Beyond the field, Torbert is a current NASO board member and a strong advocate for the organization’s work in supporting, protecting, and advancing sports officials at all levels. As a practicing attorney and Harvard Law School graduate, he values the legal and professional resources NASO provides to officials nationwide. His commitment to officiating excellence and advocacy has made him a respected leader in the officiating community.
